Meditation is a skilful means to quiet the mind and open the heart. It is the training and focusing of attention to open to perspectives larger than the ordinary consciousness of the small separate self. We can shift from the ordinary mind to something more timeless, wise, or connected. Mindfulness meditation is a spacious, kind, non-judging awareness of the present. It includes mindfulness of the body and senses, mindfulness of feelings and mindfulness of the mind.
Mindfulness meditation can stabilise attention by anchoring experience to the breath, body or sound to come into the present. Resting with the breath, body sensations, or sound is a way of collecting attention, coming into presence and touching a sense of peace. Meditation can also open us to the vastness and the mystery of life.
