About Ajita

I have always had an innate love for nature. In my younger years my horses and the wild west coast of Auckland, N.Z. were my refuge. I now find the mountains of the Coromandel Peninsula where I live a source of nourishment for the soul.

In my years at University I completed a degree in psychology and I was involved in the student union, advocating for the equality of all people. I also started a fulfilling journey of personal growth and self awareness. At nineteen I became involved in yoga and meditation. I have continued to practice meditation and mindfulness for nearly forty years.

After University I worked as a community worker and a counsellor and later was at home as a mother when my son was young. I then completed a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and worked as a counsellor for community groups.

My counselling practice is client-centred. I work alongside people supporting them to connect to their own sources of strength and healing. In my counselling practice I include the therapeutic approaches of Person - Centred Counselling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (mindfulness CBT), Solution - Focused Therapy, and  CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). I have found mindfulness to be both a powerful and gentle healing practice.

In the last two decades I have studied with teachers from different Buddhist traditions. Buddhist psychology has added a depth of wisdom to the mindfulness interventions I use in my counselling practice.
